Onno Petersen cinematography and postproduction

Film may be the best medium to use, sometimes digital can be ideal. It all depends on what the filmmaker has in mind.

Interpreting an assignment well is a crucial and, for me, very enjoyable part of my work as cameraman. I listen to the filmmaker or artist, and can provide examples. In this way we will arrive at a well informed choice, together.

I own a super-16 Aaton camera. I also have several 8 mm cameras if that will be the best fit for the job. There is an old 16 mm Bolex in my collection too, with expired film that I can develop in my own dark room.

Possibilities in digital are manifold, and often of excellent quality, as you can see in the fragment below from a video installation by Sara Bjarland. The continuous progression in digital cinematography is such that I choose to rent a camera per project – this way I will always have the latest technology, and exactly what I need.
